Vanuatu hit by 6.9 magnitude earthquake

Strong earthquake rocked Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean, on Thursday (02/02/2012) night at around 20:34 pm. The U.S. Geological Agency or the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the quake at magnitude 6.9.

The epicenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers, 122 miles west of Port Villa, Vanuatu Capital or 1,800 km from the east coast of Australia. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami potential threat of the quake.

Although the shock is felt very strongly in Port Villa, has so far not reported any damage. "We felt a great shock, but has not been able to report any damage," said a police officer Port Villa
