Bablu Jatav, holding his son by way of draping a blanket wrap strap the child into his neck. Bablu's wife, Shanti, died on September 20 after giving birth to their first child in the state of Rajasthan.
Bablu (38) said he did not have anyone who can help care for the baby. Now a local charity willing to help take care of the tiny baby.
"Shanti died after giving birth at the hospital. Nobody can take care of my daughter, I take care of her while at work," said Bablu told the BBC.
"We are blessed with a baby after 15 years of marriage, my wife is very happy when we were finally blessed with a daughter but I am very sad that he was gone."
Pull rickshaws while raising children spawned new problems. Last Tuesday the baby had to be taken to hospital to be treated for dehydration. Bablu said life was very hard for him and he was trying to survive.
"I have to pay 500 rupees (USD 55 thousand) a month to pay the rent and 30 rupees a day to rent a rickshaw," he said. Bablu said he was afraid to get married again because his first priority now is to care for and raise her daughter. Meanwhile, after the story posted on the BBC website Bablu Hindi yesterday, a lot of offers of help from India and from abroad.
